CHI   ADA Compliance
  • The ease for navigation should be considered.
  • Habits, customs and purposes of the target audience should be considered.
  • Prototyping and user involvements are needed.
  • To satisfy different users'needs and wants is a great challenge.

  • By June 1, 2000, all Texas state-run web site must be ADA compliant.
  • The blind has a program called Jaws that can read the "alt" tags and text of pages.
  • Colors of pages should be carefully selected. This include the color for links.
GUI   Browser Differences
  • Though it is part of CHI, the employment of graphics and photos are stressed.
  • Use low resolution (72 dpi) photos and those in gif format will enhance downloading speed.
  • Research shows the attention of audience will lose if the downloading time is over 6 seconds.
  • Pages should not be too long.
  • Audience may use screens of various resolutions, thus, page size, font size and face should be carefully considered.

  • Browsers offset. IE has improved a lot, but Netscape still got problems.
  • Avoid using frames, because the offsets can hardly allow a smooth transition between two frames, and because a scrolling bar in the middle of page will ruin the beauty of a page.
  • Different Browsers support Javascripts and Java at different levels.
  • Animated gifs may act differently with varied browsers.  The puppy here runs one round and then stops when viewed with IE 4.5 Mac version.
