My Projects
Searching and applying for jobs online have become very popular. Recently, I broadcast my resume via an online service, and the results really surprised me.

Within 24 hours after I broadcast my resume, I started receiving phone calls. On the second day, I received over 20 phone calls, and over 100 emails. The call waiting feature I have is really terrible. If I did not answer the second incoming call, the beeps continued bothering me, but it is really rude to ask a recruiter to wait while you are answering the incoming call from another recruiter.

Of all this sound and fury, what I may eventually get is still unclear. One reason is that most of the recruiters are actually headhunters, who live on selling job seekers to companies. To job seekers, those intermediaries may be good because for whomever, the headhunters are indeed helping the job seekers. However, because they are the intermediaries, to eventually get an offer from a company, a job seeker will have to wait for some time.

Technically, online application service needs improving. Some services convert the applicants' resumes into PDF format. It seems a good idea, since it is comparatively hard for people to change the applicants' resumes. Nevertheless, PDFs is not WYGIWYS. When recruiters got the resumes, they can only print out, rather than copy and paste corresponding content into their database.

Furthermore, on most occasions, online job search is good for those looking for immediate openings. It may not be a good way, if you want to find a job with which you can only start three months later .
